Documentation
The manual for each section of easyOS can be found by clicking the links above. More general documentation can be found below.
Menu Navigation
EasyOS is designed to have menus that are easy to navigate around. When easyOS loads up, simply click on a pale blue rectangle that relates to what you want to do. If you are unsure as to what each of the buttons do, at the bottom of the screen you will notice green text, which will give you some guidance. Generally speaking:
- Create – Allows you to use your creative skills like drawing and typing stories.
- Play – Allows you to play games or play music.
- Connect – Allows you to connect to places around the world using the internet.
- Explore – Allows you to explore files on your computer.
- Extras – Anything else that does not fit into the above categories.
When you click on a menu item, you may be presented with a sub-menu. This is a menu of items that relate to the button you just clicked on. For example, pressing “Create” will give you options to use easyType or easyDraw. Alternatively, clicking on a button may launch an application. For example, clicking on “easyType” will not reveal another sub-menu but instead will launch easyType.
easyPanel
The panel on the left hand side of the screen enables you to control applications easily. If you find that you lose an application, click “Bring back this program” to get the application back. To avoid losing the application behind the blue screen, click “Lock this program”. The program will then be locked at the front of the screen until you press “Unlock this program”. This is useful when playing games such as the Reaction Game. The panel will also enable you to easily close a program by selecting “Close this program”.
easySwitch
You will notice that moving your mouse to the bottom of the screen where the green arrows are will bring up a taskbar called easySwitch. This taskbar enables you to switch between programs easily. When using a program, simply move your mouse to the bottom of the screen to allow easySwitch to appear. Then select the icon of any other application on the taskbar. The program will only appear on the taskbar when it is open. This can be useful when using two programs (like easyDraw and easyMail) at the same time.
easyNavigate
These four buttons at the bottom left of your screen are designed to make navigation even easier. Clicking on one of the icons moves you to the relevant submenu. For example, clicking on the globe icon will move you to the Connect menu with options to use easyMail and easyNet.
easyOS Logo
Clicking on the easyOS logo on the top left will close all currently running programs and return you to the main menu. This may be useful when you have too many programs running at the same time and you want to get rid of them all quickly.
Mute Button
There is a mute button on the top right of the screen. The button looks like a speaker. Clicking on it will disable all sounds that relate to the user interface. This button will not disable sounds that are made by programs such as games. To disable these sounds, use the Windows XP volume panel.
Close Button
The close button is located on the top right of the program and looks like a green cross. Click it to reveal the password screen. If you clicked on the cross by accident, simply click on the black area around the password box in the middle to return to easyOS. To exit easyOS, type the parental password in the password box in the centre of the screen and press enter on your keyboard.
